Gentleness and Time

I’ve always found Vera Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again” incredibly moving. I think it’s because she was born just a few years before my parents were. Growing up, they often told me of Vera’s impact in this country and across the world. My dad remembered her entertaining the forces when he was in the Far East. You will recall, the queen evoking the lyrics of her famous song in the Royal lockdown broadcast back in March.

As we begin to visit our much missed loved ones more freely and emerge slowly from other restrictions we have lived under, how we need the virtues of prudence, fortitude, patience, generosity and resilience that characterised all that was best about the War-time generation.
